Jigsaw Puzzles – Incremental Improvements and Backtracking Strategy

There is a great variety of different wooden jigsaw puzzles. They can range from the easiest ones with not more than hundred pieces to fit together, up to the extremely hard ones with more than five thousand pieces. There is always only one solution to complete the jigsaw, but there are numerous ways to come to that solution.

When you spend hours and hours trying to complete one jigsaw puzzle, with each piece that you correctly add to the completed part of the puzzle, you are one step closer to solving that puzzle. Also, you gain an additional improvement. This additional improvement can help you solve the puzzle faster and easier. Another way when you get the incremental gain is when you put two pieces of the puzzle together, but you haven’t still found the place of these pieces in the main puzzle.

Here is a piece of advice for all of you who have difficulties putting puzzles together. We can think of the puzzle as consisting of the ‘edge’ part and ‘interior’ part. Try to separate all the edge pieces and then put them together. By doing this, you should get the frame of the puzzle. The interior should be filled in with the rest of the puzzles. This may be easier for some of you puzzle-lovers, because the number of the edge pieces is smaller than the number of the interior pieces.

The most difficult thing related to the jigsaw puzzles is when you come across two completely the same pieces of the puzzle. They have the same color and the same shape. In that moment, a lot of people give up on solving the puzzle. But you should actually never give up. Even making a mistake is better than giving up. You can always undo any of your moves and correct the mistake easily once you have noticed it. This is known as a backtracking strategy, which proved to be very useful in putting the puzzles together. Revision is very important for anything you do in life, and so it is important for puzzle-solving. Think about any sportsman; for example, about any famous tennis player, like Rafael Nadal. He always tries to make some improvements in his game in order to be number one again. Nadal had to make a major change in his backhand and in order to do this he had to forget, and to unlearn his already-existing backhand and to learn his new backhand. This is a typical example of backtracking. Consider doing the same when putting a jigsaw puzzle together. It will be very useful to you.

All in all, putting the pieces of a puzzle together should first of all be an interesting activity. Do not give when the first serious problem comes on your way. Try to use your incremental improvement. And when a mistake occurs, do not panic and try to find out where it occurred and try to solve it.

Tips for Children’s Birthday Party – Plush Animals’ Party

If you are tired of planning your child’s birthday every year in the same way, let me give you one great suggestion. Plush toys party! It may sound a little bit weird at the beginning, but when I am done explaining it, I am sure you will be thrilled. And the best thing is that  your child will also be thrilled for not having the old-fashioned way of celebrating his or her birthday. The thing about this party with plush animals is that all of your child’s guests should bring from home their favorite plush toy. Of course, you have to have a couple of extra stuffed animals at your home, just in case that some guest forgets his or her toy. And that happens often. I can tell it from my own experience. That is why you have to have as a host, an extra toy to jump in when necessary. When all the children had come, the plush party can start. Here are a few suggestions for the plush party to become the best party in town.

One of the games that can be played on the plush party is the ‘treasure hunts’. You have to prepare this game in advance. Hide one teddy bear somewhere in the house and use the sticky notes to write some hints for finding the teddy bear. The trick is to write the clues on the sticky notes, but referring to the plush animals of the children and not to the children themselves. In that way the children will have new identities which they will be more comfortable with. Each clue should bring them closer to the teddy bear, until they finally find it. The plush animal that finds it first, will get an extra cookie.

Another very gripping game that kids enjoy a lot is ‘plush animals’ fairy tale’. This game is at the same time very interesting but also it triggers the kids’ imagination. The thing is that all plush animals that are attending the party should be turned into the characters of a fairy tale. It can be some famous fairy tale, or you can let the children invent their only fairy tale. In the end, this game always ends up with the new fairy tale. In this game, children really have the opportunity to express their creativity, and you will be surprised how creative children really are. You have to be present during this game and to be a mediator of the game, in order for the children not to argue about the roles in the fairy tale. Everybody wants to be a princess or a prince, but it is important to teach the children that other roles are good as well. And as every fairy tale, this one will also end with “They lived happily ever after.”

As you can see, party with plush animals can be really great. These are just few ideas that I came up with. All of you who decide to throw a party like this are welcomed to bring in more ideas and, hopefully to share with all of us later on. Let the party start.
